Privacy Policy
Last updated:
WikiReel (the “App”) does not require an account and does not collect or store any personal data on our servers. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or location.
What the App accesses
The App fetches Wikipedia articles using the public Wikipedia API. When you open the App, it requests a batch of random articles from Wikipedia. When you search, the search query is sent to Wikipedia's API. These requests include your device's IP address, as is standard for any internet connection. Wikipedia's own privacy practices apply to those requests — see the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy.
Analytics
The App uses Google Firebase for basic analytics (e.g. app opens, feature usage, crash reports). This data is anonymised and used solely to improve the App. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics. You can opt out of analytics by denying tracking when prompted on first launch or by adjusting your device's privacy settings at any time.
Advertising
The App displays native advertisements served by Google AdMob. Ads appear sparingly — at most one ad for every five articles, with a maximum of ten ads per session. AdMob may collect and process certain data (such as device identifiers, IP address, and usage data) to serve and personalise ads. This processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Consent and Tracking
On first launch, users in applicable regions (including the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom) are presented with a consent form provided by Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). This form lets you choose whether to allow personalised ads and whether to permit the App to request Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) authorisation.
You can withdraw or change your consent at any time from the Settings → Privacy screen within the App.
Data we (the developer) do not collect
We do not operate our own servers or databases. There is no account system, no cloud storage, and no server-side logging operated by us. We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties. The third-party services described above (Firebase and AdMob) are operated by Google and subject to their own privacy policies.
Third-party content
All article content (text, images, metadata) is fetched in real time from Wikipedia's public API and is subject to Wikipedia's content licenses (primarily CC BY-SA 4.0). WikiReel is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Wikimedia Foundation.
Children’s privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. Where applicable law requires, we configure ad serving to use non-personalised ads for child users. Because the App does not collect personal data, it is suitable for all ages.
